"I'm playing because daddy did."

Tonight is my youngest's first violin recital. When asked, Samantha told me that she chose the violin because "Daddy played." My husband played the violin in grade school and high school. Although I tried to push him to play for me, I never heard him because he always said, "I have to practice first, it's been awhile." I told him I didn't care, I wanted to hear him play. That day never came. Tonight, Samantha will play with the school orchestra for the first time. She's nervous, but I know that tonight Jeff will hear her play. I just know it. Tomorrow, I'll let you know how she did! -- Lisa

Update: Well of course, she did great! She seemed nervous, but once the teacher began, you could see she was fine. She mouthed the song so she said she "could keep up." She also said, "Mommy, did you hear the screech I made?!" And I said, "Nope, I didn't hear it." And she said, "Well, I did!" Honestly for their first performance I was a very proud mom!

I too played the violin in grade school, middle, and high school. I quit playing at the end of my freshman year. When I was 23 I picked it up again. It has been such a rewarding experience. All my previous learning came flooding back. I hardly skipped a beat (pun intended). It is one of the hardest things I have ever tried to do...even more difficult than learning Chinese.

I have no idea how I ended up on this page.
I was just googling for a pic of a violin and there I was.
But your story has touch me and I wish to thank you for it.
I use to play myself but I ended up going for an easyer instrument (drums).

I have played the violin since I was 9 its very rewarding. I think the first concert is always scary. Tell your daughter that even the best players make little mistakes and the littlest screatch turns out to be a beautiful song. I hope she becomes a wonderful player in the future.

Hi! I just came here because I was lookingg for a violin pic, too. But your story wants to make me cry...in a good way, I promise!! (laugh) Rightnow, I'm learning violin, too! So, me and your daughter are now violin buddies! (hear the childishness in my voice)
